We’re proud to highlight the CMWiS initiative, a pioneering support framework designed to empower Muslim women pursuing surgical careers in Canada. Currently, the program connects applicants with female residents in surgical subspecialties across Ontario, providing mentorship, guidance, and support throughout the CaRMS application process.
CMWiS is led by Sabrin Salim (OB/Gyn resident) and Sabra Salim (Neurosurgery resident), who are passionate about fostering a network of encouragement, professional growth, and community for aspiring women surgeons. While focused on Muslim women, the initiative also welcomes students from other marginalized communities who could benefit from mentorship.
By bridging mentorship, professional development, and community, CMWiS exemplifies the values of representation, guidance, and empowerment, helping the next generation of women surgeons thrive.
